I realize I have been neglecting the blog a bit of late, and some of that has to do with my role in organizing a block party on Halloween night in partnership with our block club and our church. I have been busy learning about light towers (very large, expensive things that are often reserved a year in advance for this particular night), stages (anything higher than thirty inches requires an inspection and permit), and how to close a city street. Other spare moments are spent going around to businesses in our community trying to get donations for our raffle event.
This is a huge event that has a long history with our church, and a sentimental place in my heart. I can remember flying in for the weekend to visit my sister and help with this event years before we moved here, and while it is a ton of work to organize, I am having a lot of fun doing it.
One of the things I am really excited about is having a good friend from Portland come down to perform during the event. Jelani Greenidge is a great musician and an even greater guy, and having The Iccsters a part of this whole thing makes my heart glad.
I was really happy to hear Jelani was doing this, as well. Sounds like it will be a great event. 🙂
