Quotation of the Week

“What are you doing to get word out about your church?”  I hate this question.  “How big is your church? ” I hate that question even more.  One reason (amongst many) why I never wanted to pastor was I’m just not someone who is a “Church Pimp” – selling my church like its better than crack, working the streets to get the masses to come, getting the flock addicted so they too can pimp.  Geesh.

But I’m stuck because I also don’t want to be the pastor so turned off by Church Pimping that I don’t share and invite others into the story that is our church community.

  1. tough.
but i do find that we ask all the wrong questions when looking for a church…
    how big is your church?
what kind of music do you have?
what kind of programs do you have?
    blah blah blah
what about in James 1 where it says “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
why don’t we ask more what are you doing to help and reach out to the alien, the orphan and the widow? how can i get involved?
and i know it is cliche…but don’t you think you won’t have to church pimp so much if you are faithful to this call – people will start to come.

  2. That’s encouraging. Exactly how I feel which is why I choose to put the accent on our narrative than on the programs and services we offer.
