After spending the last 15 years walking around cities in the developing world and seeing the American missionary force up close I think helping quite a few of them meet their poor neighbors would do some good. Just walking about in the right places with eyes open can shake things up. More life giving and realistic theologies? Less silly and destructive politics and economics? Maybe a better evangelical church? May it be so. We were always outside in the evenings, relaxing, playing with the other kids in the neighborhood, and the whole neighborhood was out there - including many of the adults - so we knew everyone for several blocks around. Maybe she should join the nightly Haub outing! But I like that it gets me out to notice the cool morning air, or a beautiful sunset and I like that I know my neighborhood - the people, the cars, the houses, the trees. And of course, the dogs. Enjoy your outings. We'll gladly join you if you want to add to the spectacle.
