[...] This past week Doug and I were served up a pretty giant helping of grace. Our car was in desperate need of some significant repairs, and the scope of work exceeded our resources. I received an email from someone I had never spoken to before, someone halfway across the country, offering to carry this burden as if it were their own. [...]

Erika, Sorry too about all of that. So true to life. Especially having those little ones.

There must be something good in all that struggle. We all go through enough of it.

Will be praying for you folks.

Don't cry or you'll scare off the coyotes.

I'll have to try that one out next time I'm comforting the afflicted :^)

I think the Covenant church should include the line "your day at Joshua Tree can turn into an afternoon at McDonalds" somewhere in thier materials for church plants - it pretty much speaks for itself!

Sounds like we have a fair amount in common then! It is truly the most beautiful, exhilirating journey, and the most exhausting, physically and emotionally. And every day I know even more deeply how much we are blessed.

Sorry to hear your day went haywire...we are learning that those types of days happen again and again from time to time. As our kids are 2 1/2years and 2 months, we are at the beginning of a long journey of learning patience and grace....

Ahhh...one familiar with the pain! There is seriously nothing worse than long-distance car crying. I once had the two kids in Oregon without Doug, and I had been re-routed because of a forest fire which turned my four hour drive into an eight hour drive. At one point, I called Doug because I seriously thought I was going to drive off the road. He was in Hawaii (for Fuller), and he talked me down from the cliff so to speak. Sounds like he and your wife are cut from the same cloth :)

Erika (and Doug),
Sorry your day off wasn't what you'd hoped it would be. But it did make for a great blog post!

A former friend of mine used to say "If it's going to be funny later, let it be funny now."

Kaili, who turns 16 tomorrow, once screamed in her car seat for four of the five hours to Ottawa from Toronto. I was on the phone to my mother when she stopped. I freaked my mother out because I thought Kaili had died. She'd fallen into such a deep sleep (after all the exertion of crying) that I thought she wasn't breathing.

Imbi, a much better parent than I, wasn't worried...about Kaili. I was another story.
